ALUTEK UNIT CHAIR REPORT
In the past
few months there has been a lot of discussion on the shop floor
about employees and Physical Restrictions. Several members have
asked the following question: what happens if I have a temporary
work restriction and management says they don't have work available
for me with my restrictions?
ANSWER:
This does
not mean that you will be terminated. Your doctor could take you off
work, putting you on Short Term Disability (STD) until you are well
and able to return to work. When you are better and your doctor
believes you can return to work and perform the full scope of the
job you will be returned. The STD plan is for non-occupational
injuries and is covered in our Collective Bargaining Agreement under
Article XVII. Standard Insurance is the Plan Administrator, and
under our plan, employees will begin receiving benefits on the first
day for a non-occupational accident and on the 8th day a
non-occupational illness. The benefit pays 60% of your income up to
$500 per week and continues for up to 26-weeks. If you need to apply
for Short Term Disability see Becky Keys for an application. If you
are currently off work due to a physical restriction you can be
returned to your job once your doctor verifies that you are able to
return and perform the full scope of the job. I hope this clears up
any misunderstandings about work restrictions.
